I fully agree with Tony King's views. I have played for Beeding & Bramber C C for 26 seasons, and we have always played friendly fixtures, normally on Sunday afternoons plus a few midweek and Tour games. For a few seasons we competed in the Worthing Evening League, but this had no effect on the Sunday games.
